If you're thinking of replacing the old monochrome printer for your workgroup or small office with a color laser, but you don't want to give up the print speeds you're used to, you may want to consider the Ricoh Aficio CL3000e ($1,250 street). The CL3000e won't match the speeds you could get from a similarly priced monochrome printer, but the pages will be in color at speeds few color lasers can match.

Bottom Line

The Ricoh Aficio CL3000e is the fastest color laser we've seen at anything like this price. But both text and graphics quality are at the low end of the norm for color lasers, so you're paying for the speed, in part, by sacrificing some output quality.

Pros

Excellent performance. Paper-handling options include a duplexer and trays that boost paper capacity to 1,690 sheets.

Cons

Text and graphics quality are a little low for a color laser printer.
