OKI C5400dtn

OKI C5400dtn

REVIEW

The OKI C5400dtn ($1,784.99 direct) is a close cousin to Oki Data's OKI C5200n, with the same LED engine, rated at 24 ppm for monochrome and 16 ppm for color. The key difference is that instead of being a GDI printer, which processes images at the computer, the C5400dtn processes images at the printer, so it doesn't tie up the computer. This is usually a good thing, but we ran into some problems in this case.

Bottom Line

The OKI C5400dtn is a champ at paper handling, with a duplexer and 930-sheet capacity. Unfortunately, it drops the ball on basics, most notably text-output quality, where it isn't a match for most color lasers. It also choked on some files in PCL mode, although it printed them in PostScript.

Pros

Comes with both PCL and PostScript drivers. Good paper handling, including duplexer and 930-sheet paper capacity.

Cons

Text output quality is below par for a color laser printer. Failed to print our PDF and PowerPoint files using its PCL driver.
