The 8840DN lacks a few extras, such as duplex scanning, but offers other functions you may find useful. You can use it as a standalone copier or fax machine, scan to any system on your network, fax from your computer, run multipage documents through the 50-page ADF, and print on both sides of a page. Most important, the 21-page-per-minute (ppm) engine offers both reasonably fast performance and output that ranges from a little better than fair for graphics to just short of excellent for text.
