Prices for plasma displays haven't come down much, but size and picture quality have definitely gone up. The NEC PlasmaSync 61XM2+/S demonstrates both of these trends: It's one of the largest displays available and produces a striking image. It supports full 720p HDTV resolution and scales to 1080i, but you'll need a tuner to watch HDTV.

Bottom Line

If you can afford it, this display offers exceptional image quality in a thin unit. If you crave a big high-definition display, but want the simplicity of a flat screen, be sure to give the PlasmaSync 61XM2+/S a screen test.

Pros

Stunning image quality with good color fidelity. Excellent black level. Good grayscale tracking. Superb built-in scaler for DVD movies.

Cons

No internal HD tuner. Color rendition a touch on the cool side. Limited remote control. Extremely expensive.

Welcome to a revolutionary new dimension in LCD TV technology. With a depth of less than one inch at its thinnest point, and a contrast ratio of 1 million to 1, the AQUOS Limited Edition Series is the culmination of 35 years of Sharp’s LCD innovation. Unmatched picture quality, ultra-thin design, and low energy consumption: it will change the way you watch TV. Part of Sharp’s line of 120 Hz LCD TVs.
