After several months Creative has sent me a Nomad that I was able to repair with tech support help. The hard drive needed to be formatted. I did so with their instructions and now it works great. Evidently the returns are not repaired but just packaged and sent to the next person. I have sent back 4 and kept getting ones that were not working. The Creative people are great and worked with me till I got a good one.

Audiobooks is why I bought the thing, and audiobooks is all I use it for. It picks up where you left off when you shut it down, a must for books, and hard to find in a player. It also uses bookmarks, but I've found I don't use them. It has an interesting feature that allows you to change the speed of playback without the 'chipmunk' distortion. I don't know what use you would have for this feature when listening to music, but for audiobooks it's terrific!! I can finish a book 1.5 times faster! The software for loading has a high learning curve, but with 20+ GB of storage you rarely need to mess with it. I have the 20 GB model, I couldn't imagine needing that much music on the thing, but it holds a lot of books and I can go for months before reloading it. So, if you are serious about music, do more research for quality playback. For books, this thing rocks!!
