Review:
The Canon PowerShot Pro1 represents a big step forward versus the former top of the PowerShot line, the 5MP G5. The Pro1 is smaller, rounder, and more... Click here to read the full review.

Re-reviewed May 5, 06 -- I keep coming back to this camera - I've tried compacts, I've tried the digital SLR route - and this is the one camera I keep coming back to -- I plan on keeping it as long as it works -- I understand they have now been discontinued, so you might have to get one refurbished from Canon - but there is nothing about this camera that I am unhappy with. The ultra compact cameras are great for your pocket at a party or day out; those SLR's are great for the power user who feels like lugging around all those lenses; and this Powershot Pro 1 is perfect for me -- I consider myself a power user but don't want to exchange lenses, lug big bags, or comprimise quality in my photos. Highly recommended if you can find one.

I purchased the Pro1 about 2 years ago and since the firmware upgrade, have no complaints. It's gone with my wife and me on the Alaskan and Mexican Riviera cruises and performed flawlessly. (I primarily use a Sandisk Extreme III 2gig and recently purchased the Transcend Digital Album for heavy picture/movie sessions.) The pictures are stunning. The zoom lens performs as designed...wished it was more than 7 power, but the digital zoom is amazing. It is the exception to the rule that "digital zoom is inferior to optical zoom"! After testing, I have found the digital zoom to out-perform the optical! Go figure! This is the 5th digital camera I've owned and I now plan to stay with this one until it gives up the ghost! I am so pleased, that if it dies, I plan to replace it with another Pro1.
