Company:
Escient, www.escient.com
Price:
$1,995 list
Spec data:
Streams MP3 (via Escient hard drive jukebox), wired Ethernet, wireless Ethernet (via USB adapter), OpenGlobe lookup service

Pros:
Automatic lookup and on-screen (TV screen) categorization of DVDs and CDs; Internet radio; A/V system control
Cons:
Works with only a handful of Sony or Kenwood changers; streams MP3 only via Escient hard drive changer; no internal storage; no other music formats supported; on-screen ads are annoying and can't be turned off; must use Escient's vendor to buy CDs and DVDs online
Bottom line:
Brilliant tool for managing up to 1,200 CDs and DVDs on external CD/DVD carousels (it has no storage of its own). It plays Internet radio as well as MP3s when used with a $3,000 Escient hard drive jukebox. This is a nearly idiot-proof device for those with deep pockets: You'll need to spend at least ten grand to appreciate the $1,995 DVDM-100 fully.
