Twitter creator and possible New York City mayoral candidate Jack Dorsey can add a new feather to his already crowded caphe’s starring in his very own biographical comic book.
What’s next, a Kevin Rose action figure?
Dorsey, also the founder and CEO of mobile payments startup Square, is the subject of the latest comic book biography from Bluewater Productions, publishers of “Female Force,” “Political Power,” and other biographical comics series, as well as original titles like 10th Muse, Legend of Isis, and Vincent Price Presents.
Jack Dorsey: Co-Founder of Twitter, or as the title actually appears on the cover, “@Jack Dorsey: #co-founder of Twitter,” is part of Bluewater’s Orbit biographical series which launched in April 2011. Thus far, the Orbit imprint has featured biographies of a hodge-podge of well-known figures ranging from Howard Stern to J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as tech luminaries like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Sergey Brin, Larry Page, and Mark Zuckerberg.
So why Dorsey? Why now?
“With Twitter, Dorsey has managed to bridge the social gaps that entrepreneurs have been trying to close for years. Friends are connecting with far-away friends, companies are finally reaching their customers in a new and unique way, and celebrities are tweeting directly at their fans in every corner of the world,” Bluewater founder Darren Davis explained in an email sent to PCMag.
“Some of the most of the interesting stories don’t come from Hollywood but from the business world. People like Dorsey, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg created unique cultural touchstones that have more enduring value than the latest pop single. Their stories are America’s myths.”
The comic is drawn by Jason Moser and written by Patrick McCray. Based on the sample pages provided by Bluewater Productions, the pair had a lot of fun in the process Jack Dorsey: Co-Founder of Twitter is clearly more fantastical than fact.
“It was the most fun you can have writing a comic. I worked hard to strike a balance between satire and sincerity. I think the comic captures the facts and spirit of the man, but lets himand readershave a lot of ridiculous fun along the way,” McCray said.
“And I got to write the words ‘bison mind fusion’ with deadly seriousness. How often can a writer do that?”
An exclusive, $3.99 print copy of Jack Dorsey: Co-Founder of Twitter will be available to purchase on Wednesday at Comic Flea Market. A $1.99 digital version of the comic will also be made available for the iPad, iPhone, Nook, and Kindle in Apple’s iTunes store, as well as through Barnes&Noble, Amazon, ComiXology, Iverse, Wowio, My Digital Comics, and other distributors.
