Asus Xonar Outsources Audio

Computer maker Asus has apparently decided to get into the business of add-on audio peripherals for PCs, announced its Xonar DX2 and Xonar U1 add-on audio interfaces. The Xonar DX2 is a PCI-E expansion card aimed at PC gamers and home theater nuts: it translates DirectX surround-sound and hardware-accelerated audio processing to the DS3D GX extension of the Xonar D2X driver, enabling Windows Vista gamers to frag in style, confident they won't lose their Direct3D or EAX audio mid-game. Unlike other hardware add-on solutions, the Xonar Dx2 does not require special installation or specific support from game developers: once installed,

SanDisk Sansa Shaker

MP3 player manufacturers will try just about anything once in order for you to pay attention to their product and not one of the Apple iPods. It comes as no surprise then that SanDisk recently launched a new MP3 player which you shake to change sounds. The SanDisk Sansa Shaker, which loosely resembles a fat hourglass in design, ships with a 512MB SD memory card which is inserted into a slot on the player. That is enough space to store around 125 standard size MP3 songs (128kbps) and the card can be swapped with other SD memory cards so you can vary up your music selections; o...

Spherex Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System

Don?t let the Xbox tag fool you into thinking that the Spherex system can only be used with the Xbox attached, because you would be limiting its versatility. While the system I have is not leaving my game room, I am seriously considering buying another one to bring surround sound to my bedroom purely for home theater use. The encompassing sound, flexibility of inputs, and small size of the speakers lends the system to a wide range of uses that extend well beyond gaming.

With the expansion card, USB port, and plenty of optical, analog, and coaxial inputs, the Xbox 5.1 will be around for a long time to come. Spherex must also believe that the system will be around, because it comes with a 10 year warranty.

The price point of the system belies its performance. You get sound, quality, and expandability that are unprecedented. With its features, Spherex has set a new standard of performance not just in gaming sound, but also in surround sound systems that will be difficult to match at this price point.

Coming soon frrm Spherex is their RX2 5.1 Media Chair, a stylish piece of furniture loaded with technology and an immersive 5.1 surround system sure to envelope you in your gaming or movie experience. I fully expect that the RX2 will give a new meaning to the term "rumble seat", and it is with that in mind that I have already cleared a space in my living room!

Ask The Experts: MP3s Have Breaking-Up Sounds When Played

Question: I have a bunch of MP3's that, not so long ago, started playing with (bad) sound. The sound is similar to shaking a radio real hard while it is playing. Real shaky, breaking up sounds. I thought it might be my sound card, so I bought a new one and still have the same problem. Now.....I have a Radeon All In Wonder graphics card and I have the cable box connected to the computer. I can watch cable on my computer. With the same new sound card the sound is perfect. When I go back to play the MP3's the (bad) sound is back. It seems to only do this with MP3's and music videos. Can someone please tell me what the problem could be? Thanks. -submitted by jah711 Answer: Assuming that your MP3s were created from a CD that you own and that CD plays fine, your problem sounds like something that I have encountered myself several times. I suspect that these MP3s have always had this problem, but maybe you never noticed it before. It is not uncommon when you rip a CD that one or more of the resulting MP3 files end up corrupted. When played, ...
