Digidesign Mbox - A great travelling home studio

Pros: portable, comes with ProTools, uses great Focusrite preamps
Cons: no midi, only 2 channels, limited compatibility, locked to ProTools

If you want to start exploring pro recording, this is the way to do it.

Cons: Depending on your recording needs, there are only 2 inputs.

Pros: clean-sounding pre-amps for XLR decent version of Pro Tools compact
Cons: high-z inputs suck MBox needs to be plugged in to use Digi 001 is better
The Bottom Line: Save up for the Digi 001, because MBox is good but limited -- spend extra $500 and get something better in the long run.

Pros: Very reliable and stable, like all Pro Tools systems.
Cons: The LE software, by nature, is very CPU taxing.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a reliable system and have a computer that can handle the task Mbox is the best value you will find for under $500.
