I'm sure you've found out what to do by now but just in case, here's the simple solution: POWER UP the player WITH NO DISK INSIDE. Do not go into any menu. PRESS 9653 on the remote control. This will bring up the region menu. Use arrows to HIGHLIGHT 0. Press ENTER to set to 0. Press SETUP to exit. VOILA!

Here are the steps to make an Accurian 16-136 portable DVd player region free.

1) Turn on the DVD player without a DVD inside the player.
2) Press the SETUP button on the remote control (a "Setup" screen will appear).
3) Use the right/left arrow keys to navigate to the "Preference Page".
4) Next use the up/down arrow keys navigate down to the "Disc Menu".
5) Enter the code 9653 using the remote numeric keypad.
6) A screen will then be shown that has the unit model number, the date and time the unit was manufactured, and the region code.
7) Use the up/down arrow keys to change the region or set it to "0" for region free.
8) Press the enter button to save the changes.
9) Press the SETUP button on the remote to exit the "Setup" menus.

I hope this helps.
