I have a Sony Handycam CCD-TRV228E i want to transfe my 8mm tapes onto my sony vaio laptop so i can get them onto disc does anyone have any idea what i cables i need to do this ??
The TRV228E 8mm is analogue so Firewire isn't going to be available.
You will have convert the analogue output using some sort of video capture device.
Get the manual for the camera from the Sony site. That will tell you what outputs you have available. Then you will need a video capture device for your laptop. There are a number of USB devices around.
