So i have a 15 RE SE in my daily driver that I would Like to use as HT. Would it better to buy a sub from part express? Or would the SE work?

Sure it will "work". You just have to tune the box down lower than you would in your car. My 15" Mag worked very well and my 18" Q does also. Are you looking into a plate amp or an external? PE has a decent 1000w amp in either rack mount or plate amp versions for $425.

Paul this is the amp I was thinking about http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-752 RMS on the sub is 600 and the amp plate does 500. Which amp plate were you talking about Paul?

I used to run that very same Bash amp on some previous projects. Very good choice. I didn't know the power handling of that sub. Remember that 500w is into 4ohms. What's the VC config on that sub?

The site also states this item has an unusually long lead time so expect a delay.

I currently use the Dayton SPA1000 1000W plate amp on my Q. You can get it in an external rack mount too.

an ascendant would be good dont they have a low fs....my suggestion would be to get a sub with 20 hz fs or lower and go sealed so you can catch all those ultra low notes in movies

if the purchase is truely for ht use you want something that can drop really low since most sound effects are in the lower region some can be sub 20 hz....the other thing you want is a sub that is good for the power range you want to use it also usually needs to have a four ohm final load for the amps

Ok,so what about the wattage? If i have a 500wrms car audio sub. Would that 500wrms be the same in an ht setup?

Gus,

Keep the SE and get a real amp like the one linked below. You will save some cash and be much better off. This amp is 10x better made and cleaner than any plate amp. It will give you 660 very conservatively rated watts bridged at 4ohms and will last you forever.
