How old is Grandpa???

Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away.
One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current
events.
The grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the s hootings at
schools, the computer age, and things in general.
The Grandfather replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born
before:
* television
* penicillin
* polio shots
* frozen foods
* Xerox
* contact lenses
* Frisbees and
* the pill
There were no:
* credit cards
* laser beams or
* ball-point pens
Man had not invented:
* pantyhose
* air conditioners
* dishwashers
* clothes dryers
* and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and
* man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Your Grandmother and I got married first, . . . and then lived together.

Every family had a father and a mother.
Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir". And after I
turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir."
We were before g@y-rights, computer- dating, dual careers, daycare
centers, and group therapy.
Our lives were governed by the Ten Co mmandments, good judgment, and common
sense.
We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand
up and take responsibility for our actions.
Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a
bigger privilege.
We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.
Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening
breeze started.
Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and
weekends-not purchasing condominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters,
yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.
We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches
on our radios.
And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to
Tommy Dorsey.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan on it, it was junk.
The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.
Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.
We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10
cents.
Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all
a nickel.
And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough
stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.
You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, . . but who could afford one?
Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.
In my day:
* "grass" was mowed,
* "coke" was a cold drink,
* "pot" was something your mother cooked in and
* "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
* "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
* " chip" meant a piece of wood,
* "hardware" was found in a hardware store and
* "software" wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a
husband to have a baby.
No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a
generation gap... and how old do you think I am?
I bet you have this old man in mind...you are in for a shock!
Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at
the same time.

Are you ready ?????

This man was born in 1947 and would be only 59 years old!

Guess grandpa didn't know that Xerox has been around since 1906 as the Haloid Company, Penicillin was first realized for its potential in the 20s and used during WWII, the television was commercially available in the 30s, air conditioners were around, as were dishwashers, FM radio (used in WWII also!), etc. McDonalds was also around, as it had started in 1940.

Damned geezers and their tall tales.

What a difference a century makes!

Here are some of the U.S. Statistics for the Year 1907 :

The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years old.

Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. Had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S. , and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

Alabama, Mississippi , Iowa , and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California .

· With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union .

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower !

The average wage in the US was 22 Cents per hour.

· The average U.S. Worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

· A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,

· A dentist made $2,500 per year,

· A veterinarian $1,500 per year,

· And a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. Took place at HOME .

Ninety percent of all U.S. Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."

Sugar cost four cents a pound.

Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.

Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.

Five leading causes of death in the U.S. Were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza

2. Tubercul osis

3. Diarrhea

4. Heart disease

5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.

· Arizona, Oklahoma , New Mexico , Hawaii , and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.

· The population of Las Vegas , Nevada , was only 30!!!!

Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

Two out of every 10 U.S. Adults couldn't read or write.

Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores.

· Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."

There were about 230 reported Murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A. !

Now I sent it to you and others all over the United States , possibly the world, in a matter of just Seconds !!!!!!!!!

Just try to imagine.....

What it may be like...

In another 100 years!!!!!!!

IT STAGGERS THE MIND!!!!!

"Two out of every 10 U.S. Adults couldn't read or write."

Judging from a cross-section here at E, that is one stat that has seemingly worsened.
