The reason I'm creating this is because we bought a new modem and now our connection runs at 1/5 of the speed it did. What am I supposed to do? I'm trying to think of ways to speed it up, but just not really getting anywhere.

dsl or cable? if cable and you use like splitters. make sure you get splitters that boosts the data. Or you can run it on its own dedicated line that doesn't go to any splitters. as for dsl I have no idea, maybe its your area.

Lol... it's a DSL modem and we're running the same service and everything. It went from 300kb to 60-70kb on downloads. Maybe I should let it break in more, or upgrade from the basic we've had to express.

I get 250+kb dl rates off my DSL. I'm happy with Verizon. It's my satellite I want replaced. I'm patiently waiting for Fios.

I reread what you said, and you said that you bought a new modem? Maybe its the modem. If it was faster with the old modem and on the same service. Try a different modem and see what happens.

No I tried the other modem to see and it was the same speed. There was recently a bad port and maybe that's the problem. My dad's been reluctant to call and I'm not old enough to be allowed to. In fact, this modem is actually faster, not with speed, but connecting to the server.

ah icic. possibly. I use www.dslreport.com to test my speed and check everyone elses speed that lives near me to see how good my connection is. And if you want to talk to the company, just say that your family is of Asian Decent and say that your dad can't speak english very well so your translating for him. Yep, works man. Anyways, if its dsl its most likely a problem from the central station. If its cable, it can be many problems. So yeah. give them a call using the asian decent thing, it'll work.
