Tv can take up to 4 hours before a picture appears.
The tv keeps starting up then shutting down with a high pitch whiring noise before the picture appears. However once started great picture and good sound quality.
We have change the lamp and housing.
We are now being told it could be the colour wheel at a charge of £500 but then told us it is unrepairable and cheaper to buy new TV.
We love our Tv and do not wish to get rid of yet.
Could this be the colour wheel? and would it be easier to fix ourself?
Please help!!!

A color wheel here in the states is about 100$, which is about 60 pounds.

Most shops here will diagnose a set or other electronics for a fee, which is waived if you elect for the shop to also fix the piece.

Many online helps exist for those comfortable or adventurous enough to want to DIY. Do It Yourself saves a bunch of money at the expense of the time it takes to figure out everything you DON'T know about the intended task.
You can download a service manual, too.
Modern sets are complicated with many boards and connectors. One pulled wire from a connector and you may have trouble finding such a cable, let alone some wacky cost.

The color wheel, for example, has some kind of alignment procedure after install, so the TV knows what color segment is where.....

My opinion? For what it's worth......pretty much to replace the set with a modern Plasma or maybe LCD/LED. The Plasma sets in the best case are much more reliable than even the better LCD sets. The old-school DLP stuff is one hassle after another. Today? The color wheel and tomorrow something to do with the lamp circuit. Next? A clogged fan causes something to overheat and you need to fix a board or replace it.
