Samsung dvd-sr275m - Snowy picture when recording

Can't understand what has gone wrong. Recorder was working fine. Set up to record as we were going away.Checked recording - extremely snowy (was from Sky channel - usually v.clear). Though it was the
disc - recorded on another - still the same. Have retuned - previously had 17 channels on dvd now 8! Recorded from sky again. Still snowy. Checked all leads. Retuned again - still the same. Any ideas folks?

Yes - pre-recorded discs play back fine too, We are at a loss.
