Copyrights & recording to dvr

I know that there are small hardware options available that will allow you to bypass the macrovision while copying from an external dvd player to a dvd recorder and/or the dvd recorder's hard drive. My first DVD player just died, and I'm thinking about replacing it with a recorder that has a hard drive. But I don't want to buy another DVD player to be the external player just to go to the recorder. Is there any way to bypass the Macrovision while going from DVD->HDD? Since it's all internal, I doubt there is, but I just thought I'd ask.

What is the type of your DVD recorder?
Are you sure it is possible att to copy DVD to HD even internaly. If you have not protected DVD which can be one burned by you before you can try to do it internally. I have panasonic but not sure it is possible to internally dub dvd. If you know how to do please let us know. After it We can think about doing t with protectd DVD.
