Usb front on dvr box

I have a Motorola DVR box from Comcast that has the USB plug in the front. Does anyone know how to transfer any shows or movies to a USB jump drive so I can put them on my computer? So far the only thing it's been good for is charging my phone when I'm in the living room. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Scientific Atlanta 3200, with a USB port in the front, I just got it from Rogers yesterday, is it possible to hook-up an external Hard-drive to it and record TV shows. .
