I recently set up my home theatre system and have a grainy picture but not all the time. For example, when watching a baseball game, there are some camera angles that look perfect but others look grainy. This happens on other stations as well. I have a Samsung 61" DLP model hl-t6187s and a Harmon Kardon 300w 5.1 model avr-146. Have hdmi cable from harmon kardon to tv and hdmi and optical cables from direct tv reciever to the harmon kardon. Any suggestions???????

I assume your DirecTV is their HD service ?

Does your feed from DirecTV look OK on network evening programing in HD ? Did the "grainy" views have sidebars - effectively reducing the active area to 4:3 ratio instead of the full screen 16:9 aspect ratio.

I'm trying to determine if the visual grainy image you are seeing is actually 480i standard defination (SD) source.....it would look grainy on a 61" TV

yes. direct tv is my hd provider. i don't get a good picture from my non hd programs. the grainy views may or may not have sidebars. i get it on both. The setting on my direct tv reciever is 1080i and 16:9 aspect ratio. most of the grainy camera angles are full court shots in basketball games or full field shots in football for example.

the tv upconverts sd channels which shows the imperfections where an SD tv doesnt.
