Is 1080p worth the extra $$ over 720p?

Hey, I'm looking to buy my first HDTV and... have a Playstation3 which has support both in video games (some) and with blu-ray movies for 1080p output and after looking... I've found to get a 1080p set... it's rather expensive compared to the 720p sets.

I was wondering, is there THAT much of a noticeable difference between the two? Should I fork over the extra dough to get it (1080p)now? or.. settle with 720p? Will I be regretting my decision in the future when 1080p becomes more used if I do go ahead and get a 720p?

Also, I'm looking to get a 32" set... if that matters.

Thanks.

On TVs that small 1080 is overkill.
