I dont even have cable, just an antenna. Want something very basic. Only purpose is to record tv shows. Will be watching on that machine only and possibly a computer DVD player. I do have a pretty modern tv set, but its not HD-tv or anything, just regular tv.

the programming guides and all don't need to be sophisticated. I only get about 5 channels.

Is this a viable option without cable or do I just need to find a VCR somewhere.

Also what does it mean when it says no internal tv tuner. Does that mean you can't record tv shows? Some of the VCR's are even saying that now.

You need a tuner to record from an antenna. Good DVD recorders have pretty much gone these days. You could probably get an older one on ebay that's as good or better than the new ones. Look for a Toshiba D-R4, you can probably pick one up pretty cheap these days. Don't buy a recorder without the remote unless you want to buy a One For All 8910 or something equivelent. You won't be able to finalize discs without the remote.
