David's right; I've used Taiyo Yuden 4x and never, that's right NEVER, had a bad burn. When the 4x started getting scarce, I held my breath and tried the 8x. So far, so good...(of course the burn is still 4x) but the results remain impressive and apparently the use of these discs is safe. But I wouldn't push this unit with either lousy media or inappropriate speeds.
