I've read that Sony intends to be aggressive about HDTV market share. The pricing for the upcoming SXRD units on the Sony web site reflects that. Are the dealer profit margins on the new SXRD models the same as before, or is Sony squeezing their dealers too?

Thanks for your interest, but that is information that is not for public consumption.

P.S. FYI - the 60" KDS60A2000 is now due out in the next 2 weeks, the 50" KDS50A2000 at the beginning of August, and the 55" KDS55A2000 toward mid-August. This is all per Sony's latest update.

The specs at Sony indicate that these models have picture-and-picture, but the manual doesn't include it (and no button on the remote): http://www.docs.sony.com/release/filedownload.asp?Sub=&file=KDS60A2000.pdf. Hmmm...

What are thoughts on the new model versus the outgoing XBR1s? Seems like Sony has dropped some features while adding the true 1080p input.

Tim,

The PIP is certainly a popular question. My rep has confirmed that the A2000 sets do indeed have PIP, however I have also seen the manual and noticed that it's not included there, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

As far as comparing these to the XBR1 TVs, that will remain to be seen when they are released, but I can't see how they would in any way be a step down from the previous models. The PQ is assured to be outstanding, nonetheless.

Ok... I'm new to the site and the post so bare with me. I've been looking at buying a 60" for about a year now and was just about to get the XBR1 until I heard Sony was coming out with some newer versions.

My question is, how will the 60A2000 and the R60XBR1 differ? I was talking to a Sony rep the other day and he told me the only differences were no HDMI in front, speakers on the bottom instead of side, and no cablecard slot... I guess I'm wonding why a newer tv is cheaper than an older one with most of the same featuers.

I also found a great link from cnet that talks about what tv's will be expected to come out in the future including a 60" R60XBR2.

http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6536363.html

Again I'm wondering how much different this tv can be from the A2000 especially for the large price tag that comes with it

Matthew,

The A2000 and the XBR2 are actually different TVs. A simple answer; the A2000 is essentially the XBR1 with the speakers moved and 1080p input capable (more or less), while the XBR2 is a step-up. The XBR2 will have DRC 2.5 (instead of 2.0 on the XBR1 and A2000)which is part of the newer WEGA HD (insead of standard WEGA, same as above).

Keep in mind that the finalized prices for the XBR2 have not been released by sony yet. The price that the A2000 is listed at now is $700 less that their original estimate. The XBR2 is not the A2000 with an extra HDMI port, but actually an upgraded model.

This is the original press release from Sony. Remember, the A2000 prices are different that what is shown here. http://news.sel.sony.com/en/press_room/consumer/television/microdisplay/sxrd_gra nd_wega/release/22354.html

Hope this helps,

JU1CY,

Thanks that actually helps a lot.

I'll probably be purchasing the A2000 or XBR2 sometime this fall... hopefully with a lot of football season left. I'm not sure I need more than the A2000. If the differences you listed we're the only big differences (besides no cable card slot in the A2000 I think? Who needs it...) then the A2000 will be fine for me. I'm not concerned about the DRC too much either, many people have told me they turn it off anyway.

I guess the real test is going to be putting them side by side... Since I don't plan on buying until the Fall looks like I will be able to do that!

Have you noticed how standard definition content often looks really bad when viewed on an HD television? My understanding is that this is the main improvement of DRC 2.5. It greatly improves the picture quality of standard definition content when viewed on the SXRD tv.

Erika,

The DRC 2.5 will be available in a 60" TV when the XBR2 line is released:

Datman,

Where did you find the details of what DRC 2.5 actually does? Do you have a link?

Early reviews are indicating that the picture quality on the KDS60A2000 rivals that of the XBR1 series TVs, despite all of the ruckus that was created about the DRC version and other features.

PIP is not included, CableCard is not included, but you have the speakers on the bottom and the 1080p inputs on the A2000 series TVs. Other than that, it appears that they function and provide a picture similar to that of the XBR1 series.

I currently have availability to ship new orders this week!!!

Brian,

It's just info I culled while reading posts on the AVS Forum. It sounds analogous to point #3 made in the link provided by Nad.

Above you said your rep confirmed that the A2000 has PIP but now you are saying that it doesn't have PIP. Just to be clear, could you confirm once and for all whether it has PIP or not.

I'm waiting to see the price difference and whether I can perceive a difference in PQ between the A2000 and the XBR2 when it comes out in September. As soon as I can do a visual comparison I'll be ready to pull the trigger on one or the other.

Datman,

My rep is apparently clueless...the A2000 does not have the PIP feature, as I suspected.
