I can get the HLS6186W for approx $900 cheaper than the HLS6187W. I am really confused if the 1080p and the 10,000:1 contrast ratio are worth that much. I would really like to hear what other people think about this. Btw, I'm getting the HLS6187W for $2786 (incl shipping).
See man, this is a question im contimplating myself. The thing is, there will always be something better on the Horizon, so I'm just going to buy the HLS6186 and be happy lol.
BTW, that's a great deal on the HLS6186W if its 2786-900.
Yes! Absolutely! Yes! Yes! Yes! The 1080P will knock your socks off! The HD channels are like a window on reality. The blacks are ink black. The picture is so brilliant out of the box that you have to tone it down. (contrast) Colors are pure and natural! It will accept a 1080P signal on HDMI for future HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD. This includes 1080P from high end scalers like DVDO I-Scan and Faroudja DVP 1080. All lines of HD resolution are present. Incorporates an ATI chip with 10 bit processing. Many new owners believe it whips SXRD. Others say it's just as good for $1000 less.
Thanks FYI... I actually went to the local Best Buy to compare the 2 models, but all they had was the 61 inch version for the 1080p model and the 56 inch for the 720p. There was considerable difference to my amature eyes between the two. The HLS5686 looked grainy compared to the HLS6187. Also the glossy black border on the HLS6187 looks a lot better than the grayish HLS5086.
I'm only guessing if the 56 inch version looked grainy then won't the 61 inch version for xxx86 series look worse?
You are correct! The 720P is at it's best on displays of 50 inches or smaller. The grainy picture you saw was probably more related to a compromised signal, however, standard definition suffers the most as 720P is used with larger displays.
I agree with FYI. Always look to the future when you are spending large amounts of money. I don't care if there aren't any 1080p sources today... one day there will be, and you will be happy that you spent that extra $900.
