Live Digital8 Camcorder Direct Transfer to DVD Recorder???

Is it possible to do a transfer from a Digital8 Camcorder directly to a DVD recorder while video is being recorded live? Or do I have to have the camcorder in Play mode to complete the transfer? Would this be true in any camcorder?

I have a Sony DCRTRV250 Digital8 camcorder.
