Please help me-VCR records in B&W when hooked up with DVD player

I looked at other posts on this forum and tried to figure my problem out but can't.I've spent approx. 16 hrs. My problem is I can't get my VCR to record from the TV in color.It records in B&W. My VCR plays movies correctly, my DVD plays correctly, but my VCR won't record in color. I'm using an RF Modulator and I have cable connection coming thru the wall. Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to achieve success?
