i have a phillips dvd recorder hooked up via scart1 to my tv and scart 2 to my sky box. at random intervals it keeps crashing and no buttons will work on it at all. i have checked th ewebsite and it puts it down to staic electricty and says to disconnect at wall to reset it.

this is a pain to keep doing, any ideas how to rectify it

Philips recorders are well known for having laser problems, if that's what it is, it won't last much longer and there's nothing you can do.

If it's new, take or send it back and get another one. Philips is well known for making poor quality recorders. If possible, get another brand.
