HDTV cable box misbehaving

I just purchased an HDTV box and "basic" digital cable service from Comcast. When I brought the box home, I discovered that I get some channels that are not part of the package. Is that a teaser that Comcast throws in for the first week/month to try to induce you into shelling out big bugs for the premium serives, or did somebody screw up when they programmed my access?

Yesterday the box started misbehaving - the on-screen guide does not work, and the time on the box is stuck at 12:00. Called Comcast, they tried to reset it, but cannot connect to it, said to take it back for an exchange. Is this going to cause me to loose the extra channels? :-)

No, it means the box will self destruct in 12 hours. :-)

It doesn't really matter if you lose the extra channels since the box isn't working properly. Mine did this as well and it required a replacement.

In case it helps all the non encrypted basic HD channels are included in the basic digital tier with Comcast.
