HDTV as computer monitor?

Hey Tech Gurus,

I'm looking for a bigger monitor for my PC, which I use for gaming, websurfing, and text. It needs to sit on my desk, and be viewable correctly from about 2-3 feet away (currently using a 20" normal computer CRT).

I've seen some 30" CRT 16:9 HDTV's for sale for under $800, and I'm wondering if something like that would make a great monitor or not? They look like the perfect size for me, but I'm worried about picture quality. What specs on the HDTV would be important, and how would video resolutions and refresh rate on my PC (say, 1024X768, or widescreen equivalent, at 85hz) convert picture quality wise on an HDTV?

Thanks for any advice, Happy Holidays!

no 30" is going to have a rgb input, and s-video isn't going to hold a HD. so the only option is DVI, but the tv's DVI is not the same as computer DVI even though they hook up. i heard a few very highend graphics cards will interface, otherwise your stuck with a adapter. the now 30" XBR sony with superfine pitch is truely amazing, but $2,000
