Scrambled screen when I turn unit on! What to do?

I have a Koss KS4122 'region-free' stand-alone player. I used a hack to set it to 0 and I've been playing NTSC and PAL DVDs on it with no problem for months. Tonight I turned it on and the screen is scrambled. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried using the hack code again, to no avail. Thanks.

What do you mean by scrambled screen?
Do you connect DVD directly to TV or you are going via VCR?
In second case you will need DVD Red PRO

Did you accidentally get it on progressive scan?

Alex - I'm connected directly to the TV. I'm using a S-Video cable

David - As I looked through my manual, I started wondering that too. But the last time I used the player, a few days ago, it was fine and I didn't change any settings. When I press V-select, I can barely make out that it says "Switch to Progressive Scan". So it must not be in that setting now.

This player is described as having PAL/NTSC output. I hacked it from here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=
and was playing region 1, 2 & 4 DVDs from Canada, the UK & Australia just fine. (It was set on "0".) I had a hacked Malata do this to me after a while too. I'm just wondering if this is something that hacked players do for other people after a while. I can't find anything on this anywhere. The menu display moves across the screen vertically & horizontally. I've been told that PAL DVDs aren't supposed to play on an NTSC-only TV (which mine is), but with the hack it did play PAL DVDs. I'd just like to know what caused this to happen. And of course, how to fix it, or where to look for more info. I've only had the player for a few months. Thanks

note - I posted as Anonymous before, but I'm the same poster.

Sorry, I should have mentioned the DVD player is connected to the TV with an S-Video cable and component cables (Y, Pb, Pr). I dont know for sure if my TV is progressive scan capable. It has something called ColorStream mode for the DVD (or DTV) receiver. It's a Toshiba 204AF41C.

I fixed it! One of the darn component plugs had worked itself loose from the TV. How mortifying. I only noticed it after hooking up a new DVD player that I wanted to hack. When that one also had a scrambled menu display, I double checked all connections & found the problem. Oh well, the whole back area behind my TV sure got a good vacuuming with my handy-dandy tiny electronics attachment. Thanks for you fast responses. :-)

Does anyone have a URL for the Koss KS44122 Instruction Manual?

Anon - Do you mean KS 4122? I don't think the number KS 44122 exists. If you are referring to KS 4122, you might try a manual close in number since the instructions are pretty similar.

This is an extensive list of links to manual downloads for Koss:
http://www.kosselectronics.ca/index/screen/kos

This is a shorter list, but has a KS 4112 and a KS 4127:
http://koss-av.com/operational-manual.htm
Good luck.
