All,
When looking at DVD recorders et al....what the hell does the "RW,-R,+R,+RW,+RAM" stuff mean. I know it's related to media formatting but, what exactly does it all mean?
(let the beatings begin!)

* Also...I have old VHS tapes and mini 8mm tapes that I want to record to DVD. Should I buy a cheap DVR/VCR combo unit to do this? What is the best way to accomplish this?

+R and -R are different disc formats. Most recorders do one or the other, a few do both. RW is rewritable, they can be recorded, erased and used again. R can only be used once, but has the highest compatibility with players. -R has a little better compatibility than +R. RAM is rerecordable and doesn't have to be finalized like R and RW, but isn't compatible with players, except newer Panasonics and a few others. Combos are poor quality, buy seperate.
