Problems not picking up freeview from DVD Recorder

Hi,

Wonder if some bright spark can help me. I have recently purchased a Sony DVD Recorder, but can't seem to get it to pick up the signal from my freeview box.

My current kit is:

TV: Toshiba 36ZP18Q (3 scarts)

Freeview: Sony DTX-800U (is that the code? - 2 scarts: one to TV, other to VCR)

DVD Recorder: Sony RDR-HX900 (2 scarts)

VCR: JVC (2 scarts)

My previous set up was that the TV had:

AV1 = used for watching freeview

AV2 = Used for watching VCR

AV3 = used for watching DVDs

Anyway, what I'd like to do with all of the new kit is:

1. be able to record simultaneously onto the VCR and DVR Recorder (eg, record Freeview onto DVD whilst recording analogue onto VCR)

2. Be able to program the VCR using the TV's AV2 line, and be able to program the DVD Recorder using the TV's AV3 (the reason for requiring this is so that I don't have to keep switching off one kit to program the other when they're both using the same AV input.

I have tried various scart combinations, but problems arise, such as:

1. The DVD recorder cannot find any Freeview channels. Period. I've not been able to get the DVD to see Freeview at all.

2. I need to switch off the DVD if I want toprogram the VCR

The current scart config is:

(The aerial goes from Freeview > VCR > DVD > TV)

SCARTS:
- Freeview (TV) out into DVD AV3 (decoder)
- Freeview (VCR) out into VCR in
- DVD AV1 into TV AV1

I have also tried:

aerial goes from Freeview > VCR > DVD > TV

SCARTS:
- Freeview (TV) out into TV AV1
- Freeview (VCR) out into VCR in
- VCR out into DVD AV3
- DVD AV1 into TV AV3

I tried this configuration because the TV user manual says that AV3 (or AV4) are the preferred lines for digital audio (ie, for DVD disc playback). This is confirmed when I use the TV's onscreen menus to configure its AV connections.

Anyway, can anyone shed any light on this? Why can't the DVD pick up the freeview signal, and am I being too fussy with my requirements for the new kit I have?

Cheers, and many thanks in advance.

Steve.
