I just recently purchased this television and am really happy with it. One thing I have noticed though is when viewing a non dvd or hd program the screen seems to stretch a littl on the left side. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue in the service menu? I don't want to mess with anything until I know for sure what to mess with haha. Any help would be appreciated.

scott this is the beginning of the end,
akai will usually start out with that exact
stretch problem and soon be a major nightmare
with screen disfigurement.

take it back !

Have you owned an Akai? I mainly watch HD or DVD which has no stretch whatsoever. On Analog though there is a stretch on the left upper corner. Slight but noticeable. I heard it was fixable through the service menu. I just don't want to mess with something I have no clue about. Besides I have a 4 year extended warranty which was like an additional $100. If it needs to be fixed on the 3rd time they'll replace it with something else since this model is no longer available. I only paid $600 for the thing brand new. So I can't complain at all. The picture in HD and DVD is comparable to any of the other televisions I saw in Best Buy and Circuit City.

no!
but I have been a electrical engineer for
over 20 years in the audio/video business
and stay away from akai products.

you should never have to fix anything from
the service menu this soon 600$ dollars or not.

So Samsung isn't a good brand either? Samsung makes and warranties these televisions. I had to call Samsung directly to register my product's warranty.

I know this,...
samsung does not make this tv ,it is a joint
effort between akai and samsung and you
cannot compare akai to the likes of samsung.

just like you can't compare lg to samsung ,
LG is a subsidary of samsung and their product is
superior to any samsung tv.

the akai quality is not that of samsung .

you get what you pay for.

so here you go for quality tv's:

hitachi
pioneer
jvc
fujitsu
panasonic
sony
toshiba

take your 600 bucks and try this site
I am not arguing with you or insulting
you,I'm giving you a good opinion with
20 plus years developing and designing
circuits for all major companies.

you can use my advice or not it's your money,
you put up a post and I gave you a very honest
and acurate answer,if you keep the akai you'll
find out for yourself.

if you want a good tv for a few more bucks
try www. uecweb.com

take care.
