Im purchasing a DLP or D-ILA in the next couple of weeks. I will buy local for ease of return. The only place nearby is a Best Buy.
I checked out all the DLPs yesterday and am leaning towards a Toshiba 52HM94 . Anyone have any hands on experience with these sets? The only other DLP brand I would consider was a Mitsubishi and the color on it looked muted and dull, no matter what I did on the remote. (the sales person said it was the protective screen).
They had no JVC D-ILA on the sales floor but 1 in stock. I did see one on a sales floor in another town and it was very bright, but looked kinda grainy, picture wise. I know there are thousands of posts on them as well.
What do you guys think? The guys at Best Buy said I could try the JVC and if not happy within 30 days, exchange it for the Mitsu or Toshiba.
Your thoughts?

Tom:

I have the 52HM94 for 6 weeks and am quite satisfied with it. HD broadcasts are exceptional some appearing 3 dimentional, digital channels are excellent and SD are very watchable. You find yourself watching HD nature and public sevice broadcasts that you ordinarily wouldn't because its just so clear. However it has taken some time to get the SD channels clearer which for me involved using a Motorala signal booster and calibrating the TV over several days with much trial and error. Check out the reviews:

Also I have never seen a "rainbow" or hear any fan noise which is a concern for some DLP sets.
