Just set up HD with my Sony 32HS510 and Adelphia cable provider. Problem is at 1080 i setting I get a small picture inside the screen . Mybe 20inchs in side a 32 inch screen this is 4:3 picture as is the TV but why doesn't it fill the screen ??? I am useing DVI cables Pic is set to normal

That is how a 4:3 ratio will display on yout TV. Your 32" screen effectively becomes a 25.5" screen with an SD input. Just because you tell your STB to output in 1080i the ratio doesn't become 16:9 when the original material is broadcast in 4:3.
