HT Setup

Hi:

I'm a novice to HT - but managed to get most of it right.
I have a couple of questions re my HT setup:

1. JVC XV-D723GD DD/DTS DVD player.
I have almost all of the setup working, except that the
DVD player doesn't seem to recognize DTS on DVD Movies.
I've tried both U-571 and Dinosaur, 2 DTS movies. The
DTS indicator does not come on, while the Dolby Digital
does come. Its hooked up to my:
. Denon 3801 A/V via Monster Dig Coax Interlink 100 for
audio and
. Sony HS10 HDTV via component video Moster Video 3 cable.
The Denon is in auto recog mode and it does not enable the
DTS indicator either - possibly because it doesn't get the
proper info/flags from the DVD player. The DVD player is
set to Stream/PCM. Do I need to use the 5.1 analog out
from the DVD player to get DTS signals ?

2. DefTech Sub 200TL:
The default audio settings on the DVD player (Expert setup)
and the Denon are for a 5.1 speaker setup - with the fronts
set to 'small'. I have the sub hooked up via its LFE to
A/Vs LFE. The Low-pass cross-over is set to 45Hz, its
lowest. The Level on the sub is set @ 10:30 pos. All
speakers are set to same volume levels - 0db on the A/V. I
cannot seem to get any low freqs via the sub - and only a
faint rumble when I crank the sub's Level to Max !

Any help is appreciated.

TIA,
Regards,

Well in your dvd player settings you need to turn on DTS.

Also if that Denon of yours doesn't have DTS decoding then you got screwed. If it does go into your dvd settings and turn on the DTS output on. like stated above

Your connection seems to be correct, if the coax digital cable connection be able to output the DD sound, it does the same for DTS. I do not know much about your receiver, does it have DTS decoder? I guess in this case it does. There is the screen set up on each of the DVD that you mentioned , before you play the movie, you have to select the DTS option otherwise it will default to DD or digital stereo option anytime you play. Another way to try with DTS CD if you have any of this CD available. If it doesn't work, something is wrong with your DVD player or your receiver, you may want to have the tech to check them out.
Your DVD player also play DVD-audio, in order to get the Advanced resolution sound from the DVD-audio disc, you must hook up the 6 analog outputs to the 5.1 input of your receiver (use at least MC cables please), this DVD-audio will not output the sound via the digital output(it will default to downmix to 2 channel sound, none of the DVD-audio player in the market has the digital output option (copy right protected issue). Since the DVD-audio requires all speakers have to be full range, and the bass management that you set up with the receiver will not work with DVD-audio, you must set up this procedure with your DVD player. IF you have not try the DVD-audio option before, the DVD-audio will blow you away, a big different from DTS and DD soundtrack. The best way to test your system to the limit is to get the Blue Man Group DVD-audio and try it.... This set up for DVD-audio also allow you to litsen to DTS option, because the DTS decoder inside the DVD player will do the job for that (DD too) However this DVD-audio option did not have anything to do with the above DTS's issue. By the way do you have any DVD-audio disc???
Let me know what your progress on this matter, you can contact me by email to lamhonguyen@hotmail.com
good luck

You may have to turn off the auto recog mode and turn on the DTS manually some receivers are notorious for not recognizing the signal.

SONY DAVC770 Connection questions.

I am new to the HTS and this is my first ever encounter with HTS. I bought this system based on the reviews that its simple to assemble. I was able to connect the speakers and video out to TV and watched a DVD. It was great and I loved it. Now the questions to the Gurus:
1. How do I connect HTS so that I can use HTS surrond for TV programs audio? I want to watch sports and other movies (from cable) that are shown on TV using my HTS Surrond audio. Is this possible with this system?
2. What kind of cables I would need?

Any help in this matter is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Ut
