I recently purchased a sr600 and am having trouble getting it hooked up.If i hook up the dvd player do i go through the receiver and then out to the tv with the audio and video or should i go straight to the tv with the video and run the audio through the reciever what are the advantages to going through the reciever with audio and video? Thanx in advance

The advantage is purely convenience and the ability to upconvert sources (such as DVD or Cable Box) to HDMI and eventually if you go with Blu ray the ability to decode High Def Audio. In order to properly answer your question we need to know what the best form of input/output you have for the TV and any other component you are planning to use (such as DVD or Cable). The following is a general guideline for what input/output you can have, let us know the best one you have for each component you plan to use including the TV;

Audio/Video:
HDMI -Best
Component (red blue and green) -even better
S-Video -better
Composite (red/white and yellow) -good

Audio:
Digital Coax (orange rca type connector)
Optical
