Need Help Adjusting Volume

I recently purchased my first home theater system. I bought the Sony HTD-DW830 and have a Toshiba 1600 DVD player. I believe I have the system hooked up correctly, but when I watch a DVD, the dialogue in the movie is low volume and the background noise and music are loud. Any advice on how to fix/adjust this problem?

alot of people including myself tend to have this problem. You can independently turn up the volume on just the center channel through your receivers setup. Thats what i do. I tend to think it is due to the volume that the movies are recorded at. Check out "Lord of the Rings" on dvd.... thats how all dvd's should sound in terms of dialogue clarity!!!!

I have to agree, I sometimes find the dialogue abit quiet compared to just watching movies through the TV. I notice the music alot more now. I guess that's how they intended it.
