Hey there! I am trying to hook up my surround system so I can listen to my tv broadcast channels through my surround system.

JVC RX-7000V receiver w/ digital audio port
RCA DVD w/digital audio port
Sony SXRD KDS-50A2020 w/digital audio port
Dish network receiver
JBL 5 Speaker system w/powered sub

I can get surround when watching DVDs with no problem using the digital cable to receiver. I connected a digital cable from the dish box to receiver and changed my rec. input to "TV". The only speakers I get to work are the front speakers. The sub and rear speakers have no activity.

I also have checked the rec. digital ports so the sequence #2 is DVD, #3 is set to TV. I tried the What am I missing?
Thanks!

Check with your cable company if they are broadcasting in surround sound and that you have the capability to receive them via the dish box.

Thanks, think I figured it out. Hooked a optical line from my dish box to receiver. Seems to run through all the speakers and sub pretty well. Of course not true surround sound, but I guess like you said it will depend on if the stations are broadcasting that. Still much better sound quality than through the cruddy tv speakers!
