Problems with Harman Kardon Subwoofer

I have a Harman Kardon subwoofer that came with a set of satellite speakers (AVS 10 package). Anyhow I have replaced all of the other speakers and am only using the sub, which is hooked up to a Harman Kardon AVR 210 reciever. The problem is that when the low end bass drops out of a movie, tv, or music the sub goes into standby mode and when it gets the next low-end bass sound it makes an audible "pop" when it turns back on. Is there any way to stop this? Is this a problem with the subwoofer or the reciever not sending a continous signal to the sub?

Check the back of the sub, there may be a switch, ON, OFF or AUTO. It may be set to AUTO which describes your problem.. when there is no bass content the sub goes into a standby mode. I have seen in the passed that subs in the "AUTO" mode sometimes don't always automatically fire up.
