I need help connecting my new Hitachi HD 1080i TV to a Pioneer A/V Reciever, Phillips DVD/VCR Combo, a Satallite Reciever, and a PS2. I want to be able to have surround sound for everything, but only when i want to! I want sound thru my speakers in the TV, but also thru the Surround sound when i want, but NOT all of the time if possible.
Below is a list of what I have:

HDMI from the Dish box to your HDTV
digital optical from your Dish Box to your Pioneer
digital audio (optical or coax) from your DVD/VCR to your Pioneer
component video and analog audio from your DVD/VCR to an input on your HDTV

use y-cables to split the audio from your PS2, and send one signal to your HDTV and one to your Pioneer
video from your PS2 to an input your HDTV (the same one you sent the audio signal to in the above step)

I believe this is the best way to connect everything if you insist on being able to use your TV speakers without having your receiver on.
It's much simpler to just always use your surround system.
