Alright fellas, I thought I had a good idea going by thinking of getting a Bose but then I started to really not like the brains of the thing and then started leaning toward Bose speakers but getting a different receiver but you guys obviously are less than enthusiastic when it comes to Bose. So I'm willing to put $2000 into a system. 50/50 as far as music and movies. Probably lean towards a 7.1 just for diversity and expansion. You seem to know your stuff so build me a system.

could you up the spending at all, I find my self looking at things I cant aford, and then see how I can match the quality in any way I can, and lets build you a 5.1 system then you can get more for your daller, then ad the other speakers later, as far as a system gos do you want in your face loud and crank it up to ungodly levels, or jaw dropping detailed natural sound like it is in your room

Good point, speakers 5.1...for now but I'm guessing the receiver must be 7.1 otherwise it'd be a waste. I like my hears and I think they do a good job at the whole hearing thing, so I want them to continue. I'm not looking for the space station to hear my stuff, I'm going for more clarity. Oh, also I was wanting to avoid the huge floor standing speakers, they don't have to be tiny but smaller would be nice.

Well, if I were going to spend hundreds of dollars on a new reciever, I would want one with the latest HD audio and video capabilities. The new Onkyo is the only one I know of that is available at this time. Should get you off to a great start.

Bose is overpriced for what you get so I recommend just about any name brand besides them. I figure you have about $1500 left for speakers if you buy the Onkyo.

I like Klipsch speakers for their efficiency\sensitivity, low distortion, and clarity. The RB 51 or 61 system should be easy enough to drive with this receiver with room to spare.

HSU makes a similar product that has gotten great reviews lately although I have not heard them yet.

If I were you I would take time like months of research, I do because you can change your mind many times, this is your special project that you want to be proud of and not say to yourself I could have done different and been happier, most of us in here are proud of your systems and have spent a lot of time and money, and most of us have took different paths, the beauty of diversity in home theater, only in a few places in this world is there so many options you have to wonder if theres something rong with it, or at least crap that shouldent exist, like bose, in the next few days I will post somethings that will help your search, somethings you wont be able to aford but too cool not to look at

So far I'm extremely impressed with Westcott's suggestion. Come to find out I've got a friend that is a dealer of Klipsch and so I can essentially get them at cost. Plus they're just beautiful speakers so I'm sold on that part. I just wish that my friend was a dealer of Onkyo too. lol.
As far as room size, we're going to move around a little bit so I'd hate to get something that is only room specific when that room, or home, would change in a year or two.

Hoosier---I was born and raised in Indiana and I still don't know what one of those is---I would truck on over to Audio Edge in Bossier City and listen to some Klipsch. Hopefully they'll have the RB 51 system set up for audition. Some people like the horn-loaded Klipsch sound and just as many hate it. For me, the biggest attraction is Klipsch's extreme efficiency, which means you don't need tons of power to run them. And that's good because that Onkyo, as impressive as its feature set is, is not known for particularly heavy power reserves.

I would consider mating that Klipsch system up with something like the Harman/Kardon AVR 445, with a far better power supply. True it doesn't have HDMI 1.3 (it is, like most receivers, HDMI 1.1), but this evolution of HDMI hasn't stopped yet. Within 5 years there'll be articles in the mags with titles like "Why you need HDMI version 1.4.6b." That said, the Onkyo's ability to decode lossless audio (e.g. DD TrueHD) is impressive. My question is whether these lossless audio formats will ever become mainstream. One look at the blue-laser players reveals that so far, few machines support more than good old DD and DTS. Another look at the Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs available so far one finds that not many discs go beyond DD+. Think of it this way, sometime last month Apple announced the 100 millionth sale of its iPod MP3 player. Now there's a company not going broke overestimating the public's thirst for better audio.

Anyway, I don't mean to knock Onkyo too much here. I have always respected their bang for the buck, and their ergonomics. Their owner's manuals are the best in the bidness.

And Hoosier, while we're on the road here, I would head over to Wright's Sound Gallery on Youree Dr. and listen to the new Def Tech ProCinema 800.

http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/speakers/1900/definitive-technology-procinema-8 00-home-theater-speaker-system.html

These ProCinema 800 (and the 1000) systems are getting some buzz around the biz as giant killers. They're certainly good enough to put Bose Acoustimass to shame.

Now, my friend might actually be a HK dealer too. So if I were able to get something from them at around cost would it be worth it? Because I'm honestly lost when it comes to the differences between HDMI 1.1 & 1.3. Plus, I'm waiting to see which side the market holds to as far as Blue-Ray vs. HD, before making that particular investment.

I grew up in Indiana too and I don't think anyone really knows what a "Hoosier" is, I've even tried to look it up, there's several theories. It's a nickname from playing high school basketball in Louisiana. And seeing that my real first name is "Brian" and my last is "Adams" I didn't see the rush to dispell it. I was tired of telling people that I wasn't even around for the summer of '69; Yes, I've loved a woman (and still do)...my wife; and the only thing that I've found to "cut like a knife" was a knife itself.

Well I gess no extensive research here, so I will just give my feellings, Im not a big fan of horn tweeters, I had DCM speakers with horns in the past and they hurt my ears and sounded unnatural, but Klipsch are good speakers I wont nock them. If I was building your system I would look at http://www.wildwestelectronics.net/index.html and look at wharfedale 9.2 for the fronts $450.00 then the 9.1 for the rears $320.00 then the 9.cs center $314.95 then I was looking at the cute little bad boy Pinnacle sub that he has on sale for $550.00... $1640.00 for a bad azz speaker system that would put the wow in wow, of course that would be how I would start my research and then go from there. As far as a receiver go to onecall and see if you can get on there payment plan that offers one year No intrest,

While thinking about it, I realized that my friend who deals Klipsch might like to hear from some of you guys. He'll make some killer deals, email him at he also deals Mac car audio, lexicon (see thread on RV-8), and many more, just ask him what he can get.

The HSU speakers have gotten some good/great reviews, and their subs are really nice as well. I would suggest to anyone on a budget that they look at internet-direct speakers first, because they are cheaper/bang-for-the-buck and you can try them out for 30 days. That said since you are 50/50 music and movies don't forget about av123.com with:

http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=82.1

http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=91.1

http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=subwoofers&product=6.1

or

http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=subwoofers&product=1.1

These are speakers made by audiophiles and sound very good for the price. With shipping you would have ~600-700 left for a receiver.
