Just when I thought I knew how this Onkyo HTS-650 worked, you guys have me second guessing myself. I have a coax going from DVD player to Onkyo. I have the DVD bitstream set for Dolby Digital not D-PCM and DTS is set to on. The way you are all describing LFE, I am confused as to whether it is something that is enabled in Mode 3 only, or if you somehow use the 6 RCA cables output from your DVD player to your Onkyo. I guess what I am asking is, can you get LFE using Coax or Optical?

Yes you can get LFE from both Coax or Optical since both are digital. Just make sure on the HTS-650 receiver that the dvd player source is set to either optical or coax input for sound, and you should be fine.
