i have a samsung crt hdtv 29'm30.. combine with samsung dvd hd-850.. connect with component cable..
i test with a dvd.. switching between 480p and 1080i.. for 1080i is kinda blurry & greeny color (i try to increase the warm setting but the green color is to strong), 480p is quite sharp.. i thought 1080i is better than 480p. am i connect the cable it right? i just connect each cable with the same color, Red, Green Blue..? using a $20 component cable..

and which one is more better, NTSC 480p or PAL 576p ?? (the dvd setting).

also, my tv only have one source for 480p-1080i.. but i have an xbox with HD cable pack.. i jumper all the cable connect to my home theater amp yamaha RX450... then from the amp, connect to the TV.. the question is.. hows the quality actually? it will reduce or the amp just bypass di signal and send it tru the tv..

thank you. sorry im a newbie and have a bad english hehe

You need to use the HDMI connection to get the upconversion.

i see.. u mean, in other word its a fake 1080i? hehe.. that's why the colour is so green-ny.. and not sharp enough.. the dvd is support HDMI but too bad my tv doesnt.. so far im still using component cable.. working for 480p, 576p and 1080i.. 780p not working. (my crt tv not support)

btw, how bout between NTSC 480 and PAL 547p ?? which one are good?

I don't know between NTSC and PAL, there's advantages and disadvantages to both, it's pretty much user preference. The player will upconvert to 1080i, but it won't do it with component connections, it will only upconvert through the HDMI connection. If your TV doesn't have HDMI, then an upconverting player won't do any better than 480p.
