Big Problem

Hello. My theater is in a bonus room with arched ceilings above the garage. I have one big problem. My subwoofer is the Velodyne DPS-12. I have a sectional couch where the fartest end faces the tv and woofer and the other end is on the wall. The end on the wall, the subwoofer is just pumping out where it's almost torture to sit there. But, if you turn it down, you can't hear it on the other part of the couch. What's got me confused is that I thought that bass was non-directional. Please help me out here!

It's hard to imagine this. Can you do a little drawing and post it?

Is that unit a down firing sub?

Here is the layout of the theater. No. It is not a down firing sub. You can check it out at Circuitcity.com. Upload

Did you try turning the sub 45 degrees? Or 90 degrees?

Try (1) adjusting the phase on your subwoofer, (2) moving it to a different position in the room (if that's an option), or (3) a combination of (1) and (2).

The non-directional quality of sound at low frequencies has nothing to do with the phase issues you're experiencing.

Ok now, is the phase the knob on the back?

Yes, the phase knob on your sub. Some receivers also have a sub phase control; I think my old Sony did.
