Newbie needs help

Hey guys, I need some help and thought I would ask the real experts. The people at Tweeters and other stores give me the runaround.

Heres my deal. I have a 15 x 20 media room with a 57" widescreen. I want surround sound but also a good music system. I also want this gear to work for a possibly bigger are when I move. I have up to $3500 to spend. I need speakers, dvd/cd player and a receiver.

What recommendations can you give me? Thanks in advance.

Do you have room, or desire, to make a 5.1, 6.1, or a 7.1 surround system? This will tell you which receiver will be good for you. That is where I would start.

yes I want at least a 5.1 system. Ability to do 6.1, don't really care aboput 7.1.
I really need help naming a good receiver , dvd/cd player, and speakers.

Thought about the onkyo 800 and polk (rti100, fx50 and 550 sub) or the Lsi series. What is everyone's opinion of this setup?

thanks.

Get Yamaha 5590 receiver. ~$800.

Get NHT speakers
2 SB3's : left/right fronts
2 SB1's : left/right rear
1 SC1 : center
1 SW10 :sub
This will be ~$2000 and will crush the Polk.

Get Panasonic DVD. 5 disc changer with everything. ~$300

You're all in for about $3100 which is around your budget.

My $0.02

Go to www.onecall.com

They usually have awesome deals (and they go the 5590 in stock right now).

They have Yamaha, NHT and Panasonic all under one site.

There's loads of other great stuff there too, if you go there, make sure you set aside some time cause you'll end up spending hours oooing and aaaaing over all the stuff they have.
