I have a Sony STR DE898B receiver and an Infinity TSS-450 speaker system. The instructions for the subwoofer say not to plug its a/c cord into the receiver's power outlet. This is something I have done for many years. So why not? It is a switched power supply, so everything should be okay, right?

Subs can take as much power as some receivers. That switched power supply port is meant for lower power consuming items such as a DVD player.

Anyway does the subwoofer not shut itself down automatically?
