According to my Setup Manual, I was instructed to conenct the Optical Cable to my DVD and the Red Blue Green Component cables from the DVD to the Receiver.
This would mean pulling it from the HDTV as I had.
The picture quality was horrible, so I reconnected it back to the Set and the picture looks perfect now. What are they thinking ???

They are assuming that all your components are from the same company.
Plus it is a starting point for putting your system together. You're on your own after that. At least you actually looked at the manual. Some don't even bother.

Well I've discovered another interesting awareness. I bought the Onkyo HT-S780 system and although the sound was good, it wasn't great until I decided exchange the provided surround sound (L/R) & Back (L/R) speakers for Bookshelf JBLs I had in my Recording Studio. All of a sudden my wife and I looked at each other and we knew immediately that the speakers made all the difference. Now the back and side sounds that we were kinda hearing were strong and very present. So my conclusion is, it's all about the speakers.

Oh yeah...the speakers that came with the HT set leaves a lot to be desired.

I see better speakers in your horizon :-)
