I have a Yamaha HTR-5240 receiver with built in DTS decoder. My receiver isn't decoding DVDs for 5.1 and 6.1 sound. Can I replace the decoder or do I have to by a new receiver?
how do you know that the DTS decoder is broken? First check your DVD player if the DTS out put is activated. Go to the menu and usually the Dolby Digital is active but the DTS output is turned off. Check that first. What is your dvd player? Is it capable of decoding DTS??? If not, you are barking up the wrong tree. Even if your receiver can decode DTS, if the output signal is not present on your DVD player, there is nothing for the receiver to decode. cheers
